Lefke (Lefka) Mayor Aziz Kaya announced that the fire at the Lefke (Lefka) dump, which was under control after recovery efforts by the municipality for 10 days, flared up again today. Fire extinguishing efforts are continuing.
Kaya complained that the crawler dozer belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture was requested during fire incidents, before and after but that unfortunately the vehicle was being kept unused at the Güzelyurt Mevlevi junction for days instead. This, he said has disrupted recovery efforts to put out the fire.
Kaya claimed that, as a municipality, they have put forward different project proposals regarding the recovery of the Lefke dump area, but their suggestions were rejected by the relevant ministry, and the central government gave the excuse for the project regarding the Güngör dump area.
Kaya underlined that he was aware of his responsibilities adding that he was not hiding behind any excuse. However he said, the lack of response or difficulties we face disturbs the quality of service we want to offer to our residents, he said.
