The Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) Mayor Mehmet Harmancı met with Spain’s Ambassador to Cyprus Gabriel Ferrán Carrión.
The European Union relations, the Cyprus issue, the implementation of the Green Line Regulation and the Financial Assistance Regulation were discussed during the meeting.
Answering Spanish Ambassador Carrion’s questions regarding the financial assistance provided to the Turkish Cypriot Community by the EU, Harmancı said, that the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) has made a great effort to benefit from EU grants to the maximum extent, but the grants given under the Financial Assistance Regulation were limited.
Stating that there were political and bureaucratic problems in some periods regarding the projects for which funds were allocated, Harmancı explained that the most concrete example of this was the Hamitköy (Mandres) Sewerage Project and noted that it took 4 years to solve the problem.
Harmancı said that the Commission has recently given positive signs regarding the Kanlıdere Rehabilitation Project, which has been shelved for years.
