Mass protest erupts over controversial School Disciplinary Regulation


 

A full-day warning strike began on Friday in protest of the controversial School Disciplinary Regulation, with a mass rally planned in the evening. The demonstration is backed by nearly 100 organizations and several political parties.

At 18:30, participants are scheduled to gather in front of the old Peyak building and march to Kuğulu Park, where the rally will take place.

Details of the strike and rally were announced during a press conference held on Monday. The event was attended by representatives from unions, political parties, and civil society groups.
KTOEÖS President Selma Eylem emphasized in a joint press statement that resistance to the regulation has been ongoing for over a month, both in schools and in the streets. She noted that opposition to the measure extends well beyond educators, recalling that tens of thousands of people took part in a major protest on April 8.

Despite widespread public outcry and warnings from child and adolescent psychiatry experts and psychologists, Eylem criticized the government for refusing to withdraw the regulation.
