Cardiovascular diseases have emerged as one of the leading causes of death in Northern Cyprus, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement marking Heart Health Week, observed from April 14 to 20.
The ministry emphasized that, in line with global trends, the increase in life expectancy has led to a rise in heart-related illnesses in the Northern Cyprus.
Citing World Health Organization (WHO) data, the statement emphasized that one in every three deaths worldwide is due to cardiovascular diseases. However, it stressed that the majority of these deaths could be prevented by addressing key risk factors.
“The World Health Organization highlights that 80% of deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through lifestyle changes and risk factor management,” the ministry stated.
