Mobile desalination plants are expected to arrive in Cyprus by the end of May, aiming to produce water by June. The priority will be given to districts of Limassol and Pafos.

The goal is to solve the problem of lack of water within 2 to 3 years, with the operation of another two permanent desalination plants able to produce 120 thousand cubic metres of water.

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Maria Panayiotou, the permanent two plants will be operating using renewable energy sources, while on the contrary the mobile plants will operate using conventional fuel based on their specs.

She further clarified that desalination plants will now operate at all times, whether it rains or not, adding that this is a decision made in order to ensure that there will be sufficient water in the dams for farmers.
