Experts have discovered the wreckage of a private jet that vanished 53 years ago in a lake in North America.
Shortly after taking off from Burlington airport for Rhode Island in 1971, a private plane carrying five men vanished from sight.
In May, underwater searcher Garry Kozak and a team discovered jet wreckage in Lake Champlain with the same unique paint scheme close to where the plane vanished. There had been at least 17 unsuccessful searches in finding the aircraft since its disappearance.
Barbara Nikitas, whose uncle had perished in the mysterious crash, said: “To have this found now is very… it’s a peaceful feeling at the same time it’s a… it’s a very sad feeling. The fantasy of maybe them sipping cocktails somewhere is gone.”
