Police have announced the updated details of the traffic accident that occurred yesterday causing the death of one person.
A police statement said that driver of UK 872, Kenan AŞAN, 40, who was speeding towards Lefke (Lefka) on the left side of the road, and who ran a red light at the Bostancu (Zodeia) traffic lights on the Güzelyurt (Morphou) – Lefke (Lefka) main road, crashed into driver of PYN 362, Greek Cypriot Charalambos ANASTASIOU, 61, who was heading towards Bostancı (Zodeia), on the İzzet Kombos Boulevard.
61-year-old ANASTASIOU who was seriously injured following the accident at around 2.50 p.m. yesterday, was taken to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) but could not be saved despite all efforts.
Murat AKBALIK, 23 and Özlem POLAT, 26, passengers in the UK 872 registered vehicle who were also injured following the accident are being kept under observation. Driver of UK 872 registered vehicle Kenan AŞAN, 40, has been arrested and an investigation continues.
