PACE Human Rights Committee meeting in Larnaca


 

The Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is meeting in Larnaca today and Tuesday at the initiative of the head of the Cyprus delegation to PACE, Nikos Tornaritis.
More than 35 members of parliament and 24 Council of Europe member states will take part in the meeting, including the members of the Cypriot delegation, Tornaritis, George Loucaides, Christiana Erotokritou and Kostis Efstathiou, as well as Cypriot and foreign experts.
The meeting will be addressed by both President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou and Tornaritis. Justice and Public Order Minister Anna Koukkides – Procopiou and Dr. Costas Paraskeva, Associate Professor of Public and Human Rights Law, University of Cyprus, will talk about the European Convention on Human Rights in Cyprus.
Lawyers Polys Polyviou and Achilleas Demetriades have also been invited as keynote speakers to discuss the issue of the 4th Inter-State Application of Cyprus against Turkey, within the framework of a discussion on the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
