On Friday, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin overturned plea pleas reached earlier this week with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the man accused of masterminding the 9/11 attacks, and two accomplices incarcerated at the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Pentagon said on Wednesday that plea agreements had been reached, but did not provide any other information. According to a US source, they probably definitely featured guilty pleas in return for abolishing the death sentence.
