Planned power outage to affect Famagusta today

Residents and businesses in Famagusta, (North) should prepare for a significant power outage today as scheduled maintenance work is carried out on the region’s high-voltage electrical infrastructure.

The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) announced that the outage is set to occur between 09:30 and 14:00, affecting a wide area and numerous key facilities.

The maintenance involves essential repairs and upgrades to the high-voltage network aimed at improving reliability and preventing future outages. However, during this process, the affected areas will experience complete power suspension, with the possibility of variations in timing depending on the progress of the work.

Affected zones and facilities

The outage will affect a wide range of residential, commercial, and institutional zones, including Sosyal Konutlar, Kali Land, and the newly developed Nicosia roundabout area.

Several critical infrastructures will be affected, including Yaşam Hospital, the State Hospital, Alasya Park, Californian Restaurant, Galeria Cinema, and the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ) campus, including its southern dormitories. Government offices and service points such as the Telephone Department, Police Department, and Mağusa (Famagusta) Medical Centre are also on the outage list.

Residential areas such as the apartment complexes near Zafer Anıtı, and the old Lemar district will lose power, as well as transportation hubs like the bus terminal. Commercial zones including City Mall, MTG sports ground, and the nearby stables are also on the list. Several industrial and industrial-support sites, such as Güvercinlik Sanayi Sitesi, Çayönü, and İncirli, will experience outages, along with essential utilities like the sewage treatment plant, water pumps, and the Güvercinlik military area.

Other affected areas include the DAÜ (Eastern Mediterranean University) southern dormitories, the large industrial zone, the State Hospital, Peacekeeping Camp area, and various residential complexes along Salamis Road, including LC Waikiki and Zabitler Petrol stations. Additionally, the Gülseren military barracks, Sakarya district, and the Gülseren Reservoir region will be impacted, along with key roads including Salamis Street, Gülseren region, and the Tuzla junction leading to Leventler Site.

Important notices highlight that the power outage schedule may vary depending on the progress of maintenance work. Electricity might be restored earlier or later than planned, so residents and businesses are advised to stay vigilant for updates. The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority apologised for any inconvenience caused and urged the public to remain cautious noting that electricity could return at any moment outside the scheduled hours.
