Power outage causes chaos at Ercan Airport!


 

Ercan Airport’s backup generator did not function after a power cut was experienced causing disruption to planes landing and taking off for an hour and a half, it has been reported.
Passengers had to disembark the aircrafts. Flights coming from Ankara, Adana, and Antalya were forced to return due to the problem experienced.
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, who was also stranded on the plane said “The power outage has left hundreds of passengers stranded. Our Prime Minister is also present at the airport. We will be investigating whether this is a technical malfunction or sabotage.”
Air traffic control officials has reacted to Arıklı’s statement.
Head of Air Traffic Controllers Union Cem Kapısız said, “We are experiencing the consequences of the inadequacies of aviation and the obligations that were not applied to private companies. If there is such sabotage, then it will only be the negligence of the country’s rulers.”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Minister Arıklı’s flight scheduled to fly to Ankara was also affected by the outage causing them to wait for a long time before taking off.

Passengers on planes that had already landed at the airport could not get their luggage due to the disruption.
