Yenidüzen shared a consumption items shopping cart, stating that items have increased by 74 percent in 1 year alone. The price increase in consumer products does not comply with the changing foreign exchange rate, it reports.
The top affected products in one year are as follows:
Washing detergent has increased by 170%.
Red meat: 97.50%
Coffee: 85%,
Loaf of bread: 50%
In one year, 22 item prices out of 23 in Yenidüzen’s basket have increased dramatically. The only product without a price increase was pasta. Although all prices of products in North Cyprus have increased due to the rise in foreign currency, this year’s price hike of 74% has proven to be well out of proportion.
Accordingly, Sterling, which was 33.65 TL in July 2023, increased by 23.74% in one year, rising to 41.64 TL.
While Euro was 28.80 TL in July 2023, it increased by 22.43% to 35.26 TL, and the Dollar increased from 26.50 TL to 32.87 TL, with an increase of 24.03%.
IN 1 YEAR 93% INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY
The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) has increased electricity tariffs six times in just one year. While housing tariffs were 1,933 TL in July 2023, this figure increased by 93% in 1 year to 3,740 TL.
