Prices spike as the minimum wage increases in North Cyprus!

Most of North Cyprus businesses, and especially markets are increasing their prices after the announcement of the minimum wage increase.
Price tags at markets and cash registers have also been immediately changed, following the minimum wage increase.
The effect of the minimum wage has faded due to the lack of control in markets. This problem, which has been victimizing citizens for years, has not been prevented. Statements saying that an audit will be carried out are just talk, no action.

A BASIC CONSUMPTION ITEM, MILK HAS INCREASED

Following the determination of the new minimum wage, price hikes have begun.
Koop has announced their new prices. The price of 1 litre of Koop Milk has increased to 41.50 TL following a 10 TL increase.
The price of 1 litre of skimmed milk is now 42.95 TL, and lactose-free milk is 46.45 TL.

PUBLIC RUN MARKETS PROPOSAL FROM TDP

The Communal Democracy Party (TDP) stated that they no longer have any expectations from the government to control exorbitant price increases and requested that the Union of Municipalities take action instead. The TDP has also suggested establishing Public run markets.

BAŞMAN: UNNECESSARY FUNDS AND COSTS SHOULD BE DRAWED DOWN

Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Member of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission Employers’ Union, Ali Başman said that the increase in the minimum wage alone will not be sufficient and that certain measures will be needed to increase purchasing power.
Making evaluations on a program he attended on BRT, Başman pointed out that unnecessary funds and costs should be reduced.
