Public employees anticipate salary increase amid rising cost of living

Public sector employees in North Cyprus are eagerly anticipating a salary increase following the announcement of the August “cost of living” rate. The officially determined cost of living increase over the past four months stands at 19.19%, a figure that is expected to be reflected in public salaries starting September.

While public sector workers are looking forward to this boost in their income, the Ministry of Finance is reportedly facing challenges in implementing these new increases.

The impact of this increase extends beyond just the public sector. If the 19.19 % cost of living adjustment is applied to the minimum wage, as is often the practice, the net minimum wage would rise to 35,180 Turkish Lira (TL). This potential increase in the minimum wage is expected to take effect from September 1, although the date for the official meeting to confirm this has not yet been set.
