Schools will remain closed if necessary!

Head of the Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS) Selma Eylem said that the budget allocated for education has been reduced compared to the previous years, stating that an average figure of 137 TL per student was determined in secondary schools in the previous academic year.

“Our schools have been left in the lurch, in need of support, and even unable to find paper during exam weeks” Eylem was cited as saying.

Eylem said that schools have not been built earthquake resistant for more than a year and a half and noted that by the look of things, all schools will remain closed this academic year as not a single school building will be ready to open safely.
