Slaughterhouse in Lefkoşa remains idle

The slaughterhouse in Lefkoşa (Nicosia), which its construction started in 2012 with 3 million dollars help from the European Union and was completed in 5 years, still remains idle due to negligence.

Lefkoşa (Nicosia) Turkish Municipality avoided operating the slaughterhouse due to its cost and signed a lease agreement with two different private companies. However, both companies were unable to operate the slaughterhouse.

According to Diyalog Gazetesi, the slaughterhouse in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) was closed down, and the animal slaughters were transferred to the facilities of two private companies. Butchers stated that the cost of slaughtering in private facilities falls by half than municipalities.
