Student bus catches fire on Kyrenia-Nicosia road, no one injured

A bus carrying students from Kyrenia Tourism Vocational High School caught fire today on the Kyrenia-Nicosia main road, but fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the fire occurred around 11:00 am near the Boğazköy Junction. Preliminary findings suggest that the blaze was likely caused by an electrical short circuit on the left side of the bus while it was en route to Nicosia.

The fire was promptly extinguished by the fire brigade. However, the damage was extensive: a 3 meter section of the roof and 25 seats were completely destroyed, while 22 additional seats were partially damaged. The intense heat also shattered the bus’s rear and three side windows, leaving the interior of the vehicle unusable.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
