Tatar denies discussing headscarf amendment in meeting last night

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar has refuted claims that a controversial amendment allowing headscarves in secondary schools was discussed during Thursday’s meeting with Turkish Ambassador Ali Murat Başçeri and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

Tatar clarified that the meeting focused on the upcoming visit of Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on April 10, preparations for Teknofest, and the near-completion of the Presidential and Parliamentary Complexes.

Expressing his excitement about Teknofest being held in Northern Cyprus for the first time, Tatar also confirmed that the new government buildings are now ready for relocation.
He dismissed media reports linking the meeting to the headscarf regulation as baseless speculation.
