The significance of the Northern Cyprus’s observer membership in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) was a key topic during a meeting between Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday.
President Aliyev welcomed Tatar to his official residence ahead of the 12th Summit of OTS Heads of State, which is set to begin on Tuesday in Gabala, Azerbaijan.
According to a statement from Tatar’s office, the meeting highlighted the importance of the TRNC’s observer status within the OTS, emphasizing that the Gabala summit would further strengthen cooperation among Turkic nations. The two leaders also discussed various areas of bilateral collaboration.
Following the meeting, Tatar shared a message on social media, stating:
“In my meeting with my dear friend, President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan, we discussed relations between our two brotherly countries in all dimensions.”
Tatar reaffirmed that “relations between our two states, founded on the principle of ‘one nation,’ will continue to grow stronger in every field as a guarantee of our unity, solidarity, and shared future.”
