Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar has voiced his expectation for a possible renaming of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to the Turkish Republic of Cyprus.
Speaking to researcher and author Hilmi Daşdemir, Tatar responded to speculation that such a name change might be announced during Turkish President Erdoğan’s upcoming visit to Northern Cyprus.
“My expectation is that it could happen. I share the same opinion,” Tatar said. “The federation book is closed. The meaning of ‘North’ has also lost its relevance. There is no state called North or South. There are now two separate states.”
