Tatar will brief political parties on developments regarding Cyprus issue


 

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, following his return from New York, will brief political parties today on the developments concerning the Cyprus issue and his meetings in New York.

First, he will meet with the leaders of political parties represented in the parliament at 2:30pm, followed by separate meetings with the leader of the People’s Party (HP) Kudret Özersay and the leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP) Zeki Çeler.

According to a statement from the President’s Office, the meeting will begin at 2:30pm.

The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister and the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) Ünal Üstel, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the Democrat Party (DP) and the Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, and the leader of the Rebirth Party (YDP) and Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı.

Following the meeting, which is expected to last one hour, President Ersin Tatar will meet with the leader of the People’s Party (HP) Kudret Özersay at 4pm and the leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP) Zeki Çeler at 4:30pm.

In a statement to the press upon his return from New York, Tatar noted that during their discussions in New York, UN Secretary-General António Guterres had proposed an informal dinner meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides, and he accepted the offer.

Tatar also added that “under the supervision of the UN and with the presence of the guarantor countries, a 4+1 informal meeting could be arranged to discuss how the future of Cyprus might be shaped.”
