TC Special Representative Olgun will be leaving his post!

Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar who spoke on the decision taken by his Special Representative Ergün Olgun to leave his post said that there were no disagreements between Olgun and himself, as claimed, and that Olgun took a decision to retire. Tatar said that Olgun was even willing to continue consulting him, if the need arises, during his retirement.
Referring to those who are making false allegations on the news of Olgun’s retirement, Tatar said that it was unfair that some circles were attempting to avert the retirement news, “We do not have any disagreements with Olgun. It is his most natural right to want to spend time with his family and enjoy his retirement” Tatar said.
The Special Representative Ergün Olgun for his part said, “Retiring was my decision. My contract expires on November 1st. I have a backlog of two month leave days, which I am entitled to take. I have decided to leave at the end of August 2023. The Special Representative and Head of the UN to Cyprus Colin Stewart will be arriving on the island in mid-August. Following his visit, I will use my accumulated leave. I did not want my contract which expires on November 1st, to be renewed.”
Olgun said that he was 80 years old and had no health problems, but that the time had come for him to spend more time with his family.
Olgun praised the Presidency team and said that they achieved good teamwork, but that the time had also come for younger generations to take over.
