The Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS) launched a sit-in protest on Monday inside the Ministry of National Education, voicing strong opposition to what they described as unlawful and unilateral actions by the ministry.
A group from the KTOEÖS leadership staged the sit-in in one of the ministry’s corridors, criticizing the institution for imposing decisions without proper consultation or adherence to regulations—particularly in recent teacher transfer procedures.
In a statement released during the protest, the union condemned the ministry’s approach, accusing it of bypassing legal frameworks and imposing top-down decisions.
KTOEÖS Secretary General Tahir Gökçebel said the union had received a late call to attend an Extraordinary Technical Board meeting concerning changes to the Teachers’ Exam Regulation. While confirming the union’s participation, Gökçebel stressed that the process lacked proper procedure and transparency.
