THERE WILL NOT BE A TURKISH CYPRIOT MEP FROM CYPRUS
The most significant change for the Turkish Cypriot community is the absence of a Turkish Cypriot MEP from Cyprus. Niyazi Kizilyurek, the first Turkish Cypriot to gain a seat in the parliament with AKEL, was not re-elected.
Loukas Fourlas was re-elected, and former Health Minister Michalis Hatjipantela gained a seat from DISY. Giorgos Giorgiou was re-elected from AKEL. Fidias Panayiotou, a 24-year-old social media influencer with no political experience, gathered 19.4% of the votes and secured a seat. Costas Mavrides was re-elected from DIKO, and Geadis Geadi gained a seat from ELAM.
