Trial of German woman accused of property usurpation in the North postponed to Thursday

The trial of a 49-year-old German realtor, accused of illegally usurping property in North Cyprus, has been postponed until Thursday, October 3, at 9 a.m., following a delay in court proceedings.

The Nicosia Criminal Court decided to adjourn the case earlier today after waiting nearly 2.5 hours for a German-speaking translator, who was unavailable. Court President Nikolas Georgiadis ordered that the minutes of today’s brief session be translated into German and provided to the defendant and her legal team by tomorrow morning.

The defendant will remain in custody until the trial resumes, a decision requested by the Prosecuting Authority and unopposed by the defense. Her lawyer, Sotiris Argyrou, indicated his readiness to argue the pre-trial objections raised in the case. The accused is expected to enter a plea to the charges tomorrow.

The 49-year-old faces six charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit extortion, conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, fraudulent dealings in real estate, illegal possession of property, use of land registered to another, and money laundering.
