Turkish Cypriot Leader Ersin Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots are face to face with plots against them. Tatar criticized the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, who was assigned to search as to whether there was common ground for the start of the Cyprus negotiations process, that she could not see reality that the Greek Cypriot side did not want to hold talks on any other model apart from a federation.
The Turkish Cypriot leader Tatar reminded that Türkiye was not a member of the EU and that a federation-based solution in Cyprus, would dissolve Türkiye’s guaratorship and the Turkish military forces would be withdrawn from the island.
Stating that many attempts had been carried out for the negotiations under a federal umbrella, Tatar said that all these attempts, to date, had failed and despite the fact that the Greek Cypriot side voted against the UN Annan Plan it was welcomed to be a member of the European Union.
Concluding his speech at an event, Tatar said that the Turkish people in Cyprus had the right to airspace, sea and land on the island , as they have their own identity, customs, and traditions, as well as their own state.
