Turkish President Erdoğan “We will not tolerate actions that disrupt peace on the island”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the Turkish Cypriot people, stating that they will ultimately secure international recognition of their sovereign equality and equal status on the island of Cyprus.

Speaking to journalists on his return flight from Northern Cyprus, Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey will not allow any actions that threaten the island’s peace or provoke instability.

“Sooner or later, the Turkish Cypriot people will ensure the recognition of their sovereign equality and equal international status on the island, of which they are equal partners,” Erdoğan stated. “Turkey, as the motherland and guarantor, will stand firmly by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on this path, continuing its support indefinitely.”

Referring to the outcomes of the informal UN meeting held in Geneva on March 17–18, Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to cooperation across various sectors and expressed hope for a fair, permanent, and sustainable resolution to the Cyprus issue.

“It is time to acknowledge the reality that there are two peoples and two states on the island,” he said, underscoring the importance of a realistic approach to the ongoing conflict. He further described the Turkish Cypriots as an integral part of the broader Turkish world, expressing confidence that they will eventually attain the status and recognition they deserve with Turkey’s support.
