Police arrested two individuals on Tuesday morning during the parade celebrating the 64th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to reports, a group of citizens attempted to display a banner near the officials’ podium when police intervened, stating that such actions were not permitted, though no further explanation was given.
The banner, written in Greek, English, and Turkish, carried the slogan, “CYPRUS REPUBLIC: THE ONLY SOLUTION,” and reportedly contained no offensive content. Those involved argued that their right to free expression and protest was being infringed upon, leading to the two arrests.
It remains unclear if charges have been filed against the individuals.
