The construction surge is leading to more work accidents at building sites in North Cyprus. Three employees have died following work accidents at construction sites in the last week. These deaths prove the urgent insufficiencies in working conditions. While the Chamber of Civil Engineers says that the Labour Department is responsible for the security of the workforce, it blames work accidents on mismanagement.
On the other hand, the Doctors Union says that the recent surge of deaths in work accidents is due to the serious lack of work and employee security. The Doctors Union said that accidents were due to the lack of security measures and said these incidents are not work accidents but workplace homicide. The Union called on the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to immediately take legal measures and work effectively, sufficiently and transparently to put a halt on workplace homicide.
