Warning to drivers using Mehmet Akif Street (Dereboyu)!

The first stage renovation works of the drainage system located on Mehmet Akif (Dereboyu) Street, Bedrettin Demirel Street and the connecting road Gültekin Şengör Street in capital Lefkoşa (Nicosia) will begin on July 22.

According to a statement by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality, the main drainage systems, which were built in 1986 and have been seriously damaged over the years, are constantly blocked and collapsed, causing wastewater leaks which also releases bad waste smell.

Following statements by the Sewerage Board of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality, the pipeline contains serious structural deformations and cracks, and therefore the deterioration in the existing pipe material will not withstand methods high-pressure cleaning methods.

This route will be closed to traffic;

Within the scope of the first stage works, the route starting from Kumsal Park and ending at the junction on Gültekin Şengör Street which connects to Mehmet Akif Street will be closed to traffic for safety reasons.

Vehicles heading towards Mehmet Akif Street from the Osman Paşa Street or other side roads will be able to use the Uluğ Bey Street. Drivers heading towards Dereboyu from Osman Örek Street or the Prime Ministry traffic lights will be directed to the Gültekin Şengör Street.

Access to shops and residences in the area will be provided through sidewalks that will be kept open. Citizens will also be directed to parking spots closest to the closure points.

During the closure, citizens wanting to use the Dereboyu route are urged to obey traffic signs, and follow directions by the municipality staff.
