Work at the prayer rooms of the Apostolos Andreas Monastery in Dipkarpaz (Rizokarpaso) has resumed. Two of the twelve rooms at the Monastery are being converted into prayer rooms and the remaining rooms are being converted into hotel rooms. According to Kıbrıs newspaper today, the work at the masjid, which was halted when it came to the public agenda in July, has restarted. Following the reaction from the church in South Cyprus against the Masjid issue, politicians carried out initiatives with the EU and the UN. Speaking on the issue, the Erenköy Karpaz (Karpasia) Mayor Hamit Bakırcı said that the rooms will be used for touristic purposes. Bakırcı said that twelve rooms are being repaired and two of them will be used as prayer rooms. The remaining rooms will provide accommodation services; he said adding that if all goes well the work will be finalized and open for the summer ahead.
