It has been reported that a fire broke out in the south of Yeşilırmak (Limnitis) village at around 1 pm today. According to the report, the cause of the fire is not yet known.
Fire extinguishing efforts are being carried out by the Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Defence team and Forestry Department, military personnel, and local citizens, the police have reported.
The fire that broke out is still not under control.
ARIEL FIREFIGHTERS ARE CARRYING OUT EFFORTS
It has been reported that Ariel firefighters have joined the combat against the fire, which has spread over a wide area due to the effects of the wind.
According to Haber Kıbrıs, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz noted that a Security Forces Command helicopter joined the fire extinguishing efforts.
Oğuz announced that following initiatives from the Turkish Cypriot side, the British bases dispatched an aircraft to tackle the fire.
Oğuz said that an aircraft has also been requested from Türkiye.
The fire that started in the Yeşilırmak province is still not under control. Fire extinguishing helicopters were requested from Türkiye and South Cyprus while the helicopter belonging to the Security Forces continues to fight against the blaze.
FIRE CONTINUES AT 7-8 DIFFERENT AREAS
North Cyprus Prime Ministry Undersecretary Hüseyin Cahitoğlu stated that the fire was continuing at 7-8 different areas in the Yeşilırmak region.
Stating that it was difficult to battle the fire that was in a steep and high place, Cahitoğlu said that necessary measures were taken to prevent the fire from spreading to Lefke (Lefka) and the villages close by.
HEAVY WINDS ARE MAKING FIRE-EXTINGUISHING EFFORTS TOUGHER
Director of Forestry Department Salih Güneş said that firefighting efforts were continuing to prevent the fire, which started in a valley in the southern province of Yeşilırmak, from spreading.
Güneş said that heavy winds and terrain conditions were making fire-extinguishing efforts tougher.
