33-year-old Syrian national S.A.A., who came to North Cyprus illegally, appeared in court.
According to a police report, the woman who came to the Lefkoşa (Nicosia) Police Station with her 6 children at around midnight on August 6, 2024, said that her husband was in South Cyprus, and that they came to North Cyprus from Türkiye by boat with 15 other people.
She stated that they paid 12 thousand euros to come to the country, and do not know where they came into the country from.
The police stated that the suspect was picked up by a vehicle 20 minutes after entering the country, dropped off in a wooded area, and were told it was the Greek Cypriot side. She said that they asked for a passerby to help when they noticed they were on the Turkish Cypriot side.
The police officer said that the investigation was completed, saying that the suspect was a Syrian citizen and had no permanent ties in the country, and requested that she be detained in the student dormitory with her children for 15 days.
Judge Jale Ergüden, who evaluated the testimony, ordered the suspect to be detained for a period not exceeding 15 days.
