Youth Crime Surge in North Cyprus!


 

Youth crime is surging across the country which is also being reflected in court activity reports. Crime figures have reached frightening levels in North Cyprus between 2021-2022-2023.

2,976 CASES IN 3 YEARS

According to the activity reports prepared by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Court, 2,976 cases were brought before the High Criminal Courts in 3 years, 812 in 2021, 966 in 2022, and 1018 in 2023.

MOST REPORTS ARE DRUGS

Looking at the comparative distribution of High Criminal Court cases according to crime types in 2020, 2021 and 2022; “drug”, “robbery”, “document forgery”, and “theft” crimes are on rise.

128 YOUTHS CONVICTED

In cases of youths under the age of 16, in district courts; 63 lawsuits were filed in 2021, 58 in 2022, and 86 in 2023. In these cases, a total of 128 youths were convicted with the numbers of, 15 in 2021, 42 in 2022, and 71 in 2023.
