A hit-and-run driver who struck a motorcyclist on the Cengizköy (Peristeronari) –Yeşilyurt (Pentageia) main road on November 20, was caught trying to cross to North Cyprus.
The police statement said that Kutret Şarafat (M28), driver of a JB 259 registered vehicle, hit motorcyclist Muhammad Hamad Nasrullah (M-22) riding UH 255 registered motorcycle, on the Cengizköy (Peristeronari) – Yeşilyurt (Pentageia) road on Sunday (November 20) at around 1:10 am. Police had detected that he had escaped to south of Cyprus via the Astromeritis (Bostancı/Güzelyurt) border right after the accident.
Fugitive hit-and-run driver Kutret ŞARAFAT who fled the scene was detected and arrested while trying to cross back over to North Cyprus via the Astromeritis (Bostancı/Güzelyurt) border on December 13, it has been reported.
An investigation is ongoing.
