Trial of Isias Hotel defendants begins


 

11 defendants will be tried for ‘conscious negligence’ for the court case of the Isias Hotel, which collapsed during the earthquakes on February 6, 2023 in Adıyaman. 72 people died during the disaster including 35 Turkish Cypriot volleyball players and teachers.

Adıyaman 3rd High Criminal Court, requests a prison sentence between 2 years and 8 months to 22 years and 6 months each for the 11 defendants of Isias Hotel, 5 of whom are detained, for the crime of “causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence”. After the indictment was accepted on December 2, 2023, the trial will begin on January 3 and will continue until January 5.

Families who want justice will be closely following the case of the process. They will be flying to Adıyaman to follow the case with a large delegation.

A large delegation consisting of the members of the parliamentary investigation committee who are following the case, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, some MPs, Head of the Bar Association Hasan Esendağlı and his lawyers team in Cyprus, Head of the Turkish Bar Association Erinç Sağkan and his accompanying lawyers will also be going to Adıyaman.
