Storm damaged greenhouses

The adverse weather conditions that affected the country last week have damaged greenhouses where tomatoes are produced.
According to Kıbrıs News, around 15 decares of greenhouses in Girne (Kyrenia) and Gazimağusa (Famagusta) were damaged by the storm.
A 12 million TL worth of damage has been caused to the greenhouses and products.
Due to the damage, tomato prices have spiked to 80-85 TL per kilogram. Greens grown in open air have also been negatively affected. For the first time in history, permission has been given for lettuce imports to the country.
Speaking to KIBRIS, Greenhouse Producers Association leader Veli Bayır said that the Kuzucuk (Arnadi) region in Girne (Kyrenia) was affected by hail and storm, and the Maraş (Varosha) region in Gazimağusa (Famagusta) was affected by a tornado. He explained that the damages will directly be reflected on consumers as a price increase.
Bayır stated that damage assessments are being made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
