Desert dust is threatening health


 

Desert dust storms that has been affecting the country have become a serious, life-threatening health problem.

Experts recommends that the public takes into account the warnings saying that individuals should stay indoors and not leave home unless necessary, and wear a mask while out for their own safety.

Speaking to Halkın Sesi, Chest Disease Specialist Prof. Dr. Füsun Yıldız emphasized that respiratory, cardiovascular diseases, hospital admissions, illnesses and deaths are on the rise due to dust storms.

Yıldız explained that we are also inhaling chemical particles formed by industrial and agricultural activities and that these substances are damaging the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, as well as the immune system.

Dr. Füsun Yıldız warned that the public should stay indoors in such weather, and recommended that mouth and nose should be covered with a mask or wet cloth, outdoor exercises should be avoided and a vehicle ventilation should not be turned on while driving.
