Livestock farmers and butchers are not satisfied with the government’s decision to “import frozen meat without a tender”.
Butchers held a protest yesterday in front of the Ministry of Agriculture. Animal producers are preparing to take to the streets on Monday.
Head of the Butchers’ Association Raşit Şenkaya said, “It is believed that, following the Council of Ministers decision, meat will be imported by TÜK. However, we have also heard that the government is discussing this import issue with private companies.” Şenkaya emphasized that they do not demand to import ‘frozen meat’.
Head of the Livestock Producers and Breeders Association Mustafa Naimoğulları, said that the meat which will be brought frozen “will not benefit anyone except those who have cold storage rooms. They are trying to provide extra income to a few.” Naimoğulları was cited as saying.
