Stash of explosives found in Oroklini Cemetery

Police arrested a 46-year-old man and a 35-year-old man on Monday after discovering a large cache of firearms and explosives in an Orokolini cemetery. According to a police statement, the raid was conducted by drug squad (Ykan) officers around noon.

Police observed two individuals behaving suspiciously as they approached the cemetery in Larnaca province with their vehicles. One person acted as a lookout while the other exited his vehicle, entered the cemetery, and approached a specific grave where he retrieved a large bag.

Upon stopping the suspect, police found 10 boxes of pistol bullets, various cartridges, a pistol, and a hunting rifle. Further investigations by the police uncovered a military rifle, an anti-tank gun, two missiles, three missile launchers, a package of cartridges, an improvised explosive device containing high-powered explosives, a quantity of high explosives, a pistol, and two silencers hidden in the grave.

Reports indicate that the 46-year-old suspect worked at a local funeral home and had previously been observed engaging in suspicious activities in the cemetery. The second suspect, aged 35, was also taken into custody.

Police are investigating whether the items were intended for criminal use.
