Çavuş: “We will be importing 20 tonnes and 880 Kg meat this week”


 

A consensus could not be reached at the meeting between the Livestock Producers and Breeders Association and Government officials.

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş also held a press conference at the ministry meeting hall. Çavuş was accompanied by Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu and Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova during the meeting.

Çavuş stated that they were able to reach a consensus on two subjects only regarding meat import. He emphasized that they were ready to renegotiate to reach a consensus, emphasising that their doors are open.

Underlining that the government is determined to import meat, Çavuş denied claims that meat will be imported for hotels and said their aim is to ensure that people with low-income has the opportunity to purchase meat.

“We will be receiving three shipments with 20 tonnes and 880 kilograms of meat this week. Subsequently, the amount will be evaluated according to need.” Çavuş was noted as saying as he stated that the meat coming from Netherlands is of European origin. Expressing his sensitivity about meat coming from ‘disease-free countries’, Çavuş also said that imported meat will be on the shelves next week, reminding that markets need to have generators and should keep meat stored in freezers set to -18 °C.
