1 killed, 3 injured after car flies into sea


 

One person has died and three injured following a traffic accident on Ecevit Ave. in Gemikonağı (Karavostasi).

The accident happened in the early hours of Saturday, June 15.

A police statement said that driver of EP 049 registered vehicle Mehmet Eren ERDOĞAN, 29, who was under the influence of 143 milligrams of alcohol, was heading East on Ecevit Avenue in Gemikonağı (Karavostasi) at around 2 a.m. this morning when he lost steering control at the bend due to speeding, causing him to crash into curb stones, hitting Naveed AKBAR, 26, and Sajidullah KHAN, 22, that were sitting on a pavement bench. The vehicle continued by hitting a lamppost and then fell into the sea from 3,40 metres high.

Naveed AKBAR, who was sitting on the bench, was seriously injured following the accident, and was taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital, but could not be saved despite all efforts.

Driver of EP 049 registered vehicle, Mehmet Eren ERDOĞAN, and passenger Aysu DEMİR, 21, and Sajidullah KHAN, who was sitting on the bench, were also injured following the accident, and were taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital.

While Mehmet Eren ERDOĞAN and Aysu DEMİR were discharged following their treatments, Sajidullah KHAN is being kept under observation.

Driver ERDOĞAN has been arrested and an investigation has been launched.
