CMP gives information about excavation work


 

The Bi-communal Forensic Excavation Team of the Committee on Missing Persons has conducted a total of 47 excavations this year. 15 were in wells and the remaining 32 were in open fields. The remains of 7 casualties were found during the excavations, it has been reported.
The excavation sites where 7 remains were found were announced as Özhan/Asomatos, Gazimağusa/Ammochostos, Akova/Gypsou, Alayköy/Gerelakkos (Military Zone), Girne/Kyrenia.
Making a statement to TAK, The Turkish Cypriot Member of the Committee on Missing Persons, stated that the teams are still carrying out excavation work at Mutluyaka/Stylloi, Gazimağusa/Ammochostos, Aydemet/Agios Dometios (Military District), Güngör/Koutsovendis, Lapta/Lapithos, and Hulu/Choulou, except for Atlılar/Aloa. Active excavation work is ongoing in 7 areas, the statement read.
Officials stated that working hours were limited due to the challenging weather conditions and therefore they could not progress at the desired speed.
According to information from the Turkish Cypriot Members of the Committee on Missing Persons, the excavation of the mass grave at Atlılar/Aloa began on July 24th. A bi-communal excavation teamwork is being conducted at the Atlılar/Aloa mass grave, in search of the missing 37 Turkish Cypriots.
