Pile – Yiğitler road construction work has begun

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı announced that the Pile (Pyla)- Yiğitler (Arsos) road construction work begun in the Yiğitler (Arsos) village on Monday. “I hope the United Nations (UN) will not interfere again when the work nears to the buffer zone. If they try to interfere then we won’t be held responsible,” he was cited as saying.

“The Yiğitler (Arsos) – Pile (Pyla) road is very important for our 500 people living in the Pile region. As the Turkish Cypriot community, we are determined to build this road. Motherland Türkiye, has also extended great support to us,” he said.

Arıklı stated that the road construction work had ceased to give diplomacy a chance following confrontation by UN peacekeepers. Construction work resumed on the road from the Yiğitler side, as there was no more time to lose.

“The UN’s duty is not to confront us, but to simply take notes. We have also taken notes on the attack against one of our soldiers in the buffer zone in Lefkoşa (Nicosia). We are waiting for the UN to investigate the incident. We are remaining silent for the time being but we will not turn a blind eye” Arıklı said.
