5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Evia island


 

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 struck the island of Evia, located to the northeast of Athens, as reported by the Athens Geodynamic Institute.

There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage resulting from the quake, although it was felt in the capital. 

The earthquake occurred at 8.26 a.m. with an epicenter situated 6 kilometers east of the town of Prokopi, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute. Its depth was estimated to be 14.2 kilometers.

The quake was followed by another 3.8 magnitude jolt in the same location 7 minutes later.
