Former Turkish Cypriot Leader Mustafa Akıncı stated that for the last 3 years, the 40-year-old policy has been introduced as if it is something new, and that the continuation of this serves the purpose of provincialization.
Akıncı shared a post on his social media about the politics of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the Cyprus problem.
Akıncı’s post said:
“For many years, the late President Denktaş had made it a policy not to hold meetings without recognizing our sovereignty. There was a desire for Clerides and the UN to officially recognize the TRNC, where even the Turkish football federation was not able to play matches. The only thing that went well was the years that passed without negotiations: the Republic of Cyprus, under Greek rule, became an EU member on its own and behalf of the entire island in terms of international law. For the last three years, 40-year-old politics has been demonstrated as if it is something new. The continuation of this serves only one thing: provincialization.
