Alexis Mavromichalis, aged 45, a well-known man to police with ‘Alexoui’ as his nickname, was shot dead late on Tuesday in his home in Acropolis, Nicosia.
Police said this is a case of pre-meditated murder considering the shot apparently came from a sniper hiding in an open space across the victim’s apartment.
Alexoui was shot in the abdomen around 9:30 in the evening while standing at his second-floor apartment’s balcony and died while undergoing emergency surgery at the Nicosia General Hospital.
A Police spokesman told CyBC radio on Wednesday morning they are investigating a connection between Tuesday’s murder and the one early on Monday in coastal Limassol.
Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, aged 54, was gunned down and murdered in broad daylight near a popular beach in central Limassol.
He had been struck by 10 bullets a post mortem showed on Tuesday after police said they were worried about more bloodshed.
Alexoui and Kalogeropoulos, also known to police, apparently had good relations, according to local reports.
