Altuğra attends the 5th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Health as an observer

Health Minister ( North Cyprus) İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra attended the 5th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Ministerial Meeting on Health as an observer.

Mrs. Altuğra was accompanied by her undersecretary, Dr. Düriye Deren Oygar during the ECO ministerial meeting held in Geneva on May 24.

In her address, Altuğra expressed her appreciation for representing the “TRNC as an observer member” during the ECO ministerial meeting.

“The possible risks for natural disasters in the region require the urgency for a more resilient, cooperative, and strong role for ECO in health,” she said, noting that “to this end, we, as ECO members and observer members, need to share our experiences, strengthen our partnership, and prioritise humanitarian aid.”

The event hosted by Azerbaijan brought together representatives from the ECO countries Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

During the meeting, member countries exchanged views on the Plan of Action on Health Cooperation in the ECO Region, such as healthcare, natural disasters, and regional coordination and collaboration in response to possible future pandemics.
