Citrus exports at risk!

The citrus industry has been facing the risk of ‘Citrus Greening Disease’ for a while. There is concern that if precautions are not taken against the disease, it will spread.
The Department of Agriculture is working with a team from Türkiye, to combat this disease that is drying out the trees.
If the greening disease, which is difficult to combat, is not prevented, there is a risk of citrus trees drying out within 7 years.

THE CAPACITY OF THE CONCENTRATE FACILITY IS INSUFFICIENT FOR EXPORT

Head of Cyprus Turkish Citrus Producers Union Ali Alioğlu, in a recent statement, had warned that 130 thousand tons of production would be destroyed if precautions were not taken against the disease immediately.
Stating that the product cannot be exported to Türkiye due to the greening disease, Alioğlu said that strict rules have been set for the export of the product.
Alioğlu also explained that the product can only be exported as a concentrated product. Noting that there is only one concentrate facility in North Cyprus, he said that this facility lacks the capacity to squeeze the entire load of product.
