Cypriot teachers issue joint statement


 

Greek and Turkish Cypriot teachers’ unions, POED, KTÖS, OELMEK, KTOEÖS, OLTEK and DAÜ-SEN, members of Education International (EI) and European Union Education Committee (ETUCE) celebrated October 5, World Teachers’ Day with a joint statement.
The Greek and Turkish Cypriot teachers’ unions in a written statement emphasized that, as is the case every year, October 5, World Teachers’ Day will be celebrated together this year.
The importance of well-trained teachers and support, to enable the creation for education needed in the future, was emphasized.
Noting that access to quality education is a fundamental human right, the statement said that it was crucial to overcome today’s biggest challenges. It is important to promote peace, eliminate poverty, ensure social justice, and combat climate change. Teachers are at the centre of this struggle and future vision, the statement said.
